When going on a cruise out of Port Canaveral, you have two primary parking options:
parking at the terminal or utilizing off-site parking facilities.
Here's a breakdown to help you decide which is better for you:
Terminal Parking (On-site):
Pros:
Directly at the ship: This offers the ultimate convenience as you are right next to your cruise ship.
Easy access: You don't have to worry about catching shuttles.
Simple process: It's usually a straightforward process of driving up, unloading, and parking.
Cons:
Expensive: Terminal parking can be significantly more expensive than off-site options, starting at $17 per day.
No free shuttle: You'll have to manage your luggage and walk to the terminal without the assistance of a complimentary shuttle.
First-come, first-served: You can't reserve a spot, so there's a risk of lots being full, especially for covered or close spots.
Traffic and congestion: Driving and parking at the terminal can be subject to significant traffic and long lines, especially during peak times.
Off-site Parking:
Pros:
Cost-effective: Off-site parking is often significantly cheaper than terminal parking, with rates starting as low as $10 per day.
Free shuttles: Most off-site parking facilities offer complimentary shuttle services to and from the cruise terminals, assisting with luggage.
Potential discounts: Some off-site lots offer discounts for specific groups like military personnel, public service workers, or AAA members.
Reservations often available: Many off-site lots allow you to reserve your parking spot in advance, ensuring you have a space.
Security: Off-site lots often have security measures like fencing, lighting, and surveillance.
Cons:
Shuttle wait times: You might have to wait for a shuttle, which can add time to your travel to and from the port.
Location: You won't be able to park directly at the ship, so you'll rely on the shuttle service for transportation.
In summary:
If your priority is convenience and proximity to the ship, and budget is not a major concern, terminal parking may be the preferred option.
If you are looking to save money and don't mind a short shuttle ride, off-site parking is a great alternative that also offers security and peace of mind.
Consider factors like the cost difference, potential wait times for shuttles, and your own preference for convenience when making your decision. We live local to Port Canaveral and have only ever parked at the Terminal. We like the convenience of walking off the ship and straight to our car. However, we're not against trying off-site parking. Maybe on a longer cruise we'll give it a try.
