STAYING WELL AT SEA: Tips For Healthy Cruising

After several cruises, we noticed a frustrating pattern—almost every other cruise, my husband seemed to come down with something 🤒, turning what should be relaxing vacations into days stuck in the cabin. Once we started cruising more frequently, we realized we needed to take staying healthy more seriously—both pre-cruise and while onboard.
👉 I’ve put together a list of cruise wellness essentials that help stay healthy before and during every cruise. You can check it out here: https://joylink.io/sunpackedsuitcase/uME9EdI
One trip, he started developing a cough mid‑trip 🤧, so we headed down to medical onboard… and a bottle of cough medicine was $27. We waited until we reached Amber Cove and bought some at a pharmacy in port for about $12. The entire bottle was written in Spanish, so we had no idea what it said—but it was cheaper than the onboard price, so he took it anyway.

At Celebration Key, we found Pharmabox vending machines 💊 with over‑the-counter meds and essentials—a handy option, but like most convenient sources, the prices are higher than what you’d pay if you bring things with you.

We now pack cold medicine 🤒 and a few basics every time we cruise—even if neither of us is showing any signs of being sick pre-cruise. It just makes things easier (and usually cheaper) once we’re onboard.
Before You Cruise: Consider starting an immune-support routine with vitamins or supplements like vitamin C 🍊, vitamin D ☀️, zinc, or a daily multivitamin 💊.
While on the Ship:
➤ Wash your hands frequently with soap and water 🧼
➤ Use hand sanitizer when you can’t get to a sink 🧴
➤ Carry disinfectant wipes for high-touch surfaces like cabin door handles, elevator buttons ⬆️⬇️, and railings
➤ Consider using sanitizing spray or wipes on high-touch items in your cabin when you first arrive (remote, phone, door handles)
➤ Keep tissues handy for sneezes and coughs—and dispose of them immediately 🤧🗑️➤ Consider packing masks 😷 for crowded areas or when someone around you is coughing
➤ Stay hydrated 💧 and get plenty of rest 😴—your body fights germs better when it’s well-fueled
✅ Tip: Cough into your ELBOW, not your hand! 💪
A little preparation goes a long way—let’s enjoy healthy adventures!
