DO YOU VAPE? If your cruise includes a Mexico port, here’s something you need to know before you go.

If your cruise stops in Mexico (Cozumel, Costa Maya, Cabo, etc.), be aware that Mexico now has a nationwide vape ban in effect. The law went into effect on January 16, 2026.
📜 What the law says (simplified):
➤ Mexico’s General Health Law prohibits the import, sale, distribution, and promotion of vaping devices
➤ Applies to all vapes — disposable, refillable, nicotine & non-nicotine
➤ This is a federal law, enforced across the country, including cruise ports
⚠️ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CRUISERS:
➤ Bringing a vape off the ship — even in your pocket — can be treated as illegal importation
➤ Devices may be confiscated on the spot
➤ Fines can start around 11,000+ pesos (roughly $600 USD), depending on enforcement
➤ You may be delayed or questioned, cutting into your port day
🚔 WHAT ABOUT JAIL TIME?
➤ The law does mention 1–8 years in prison, but that applies to selling, smuggling, or distributing vapes
➤ Cruise passengers with one vape for personal use are very unlikely to face jail time
➤ Most reported cases involving tourists result in confiscation, fines, and delays — not arrest
🧳 BEST ADVICE:
➤ Leave vapes on the ship when visiting Mexican ports
➤ Double-check pockets and bags before going ashore
➤ Don’t assume “personal use” makes it okay
