How Much Should You TIP the Luggage Porters at the Cruise Terminal?

Before you even step foot on the ship, there’s one cruise question almost everyone has…

The standard is $1–$2 per bag.
➤ 2 bags = $2–$4
➤ 4 bags = $4–$8
➤ Super heavy bags or extra assistance? Tip on the higher end.
Cash is best — small bills make it quick and easy. This is a customary tip, not an automatic gratuity. It’s not built into your cruise fare, but it’s widely expected.
Cruise luggage porters do not work for the cruise line. They’re typically employed by the port authority or a contracted terminal operations company, not Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Disney, etc.
WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO:
✔️ Take your luggage from your vehicle
✔️ Organize and verify luggage tags
✔️ Load bags onto large carts
✔️ Move them into the terminal’s secured processing area
From there, the luggage is transferred to the ship’s crew, who sort and deliver it to staterooms later in the day. Different teams, different roles.
PRO TIP:
Have your luggage tags attached before you pull up. It keeps the line moving and makes everything smoother.
