One of the first things to check before leaving home is your ID. If you’re flying within the U.S., you’ll need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another accepted form of ID, like a passport.

⭐ HOW TO TELL IF YOUR ID IS REAL ID-COMPLIANT:
Look for a star in the upper right corner of your driver’s license or ID card. If your ID has a star, it’s REAL ID-ready. If it doesn’t, you’ll need another accepted form of ID, such as: Passport, Passport Card, Military ID, Global Entry/NEXUS/SENTRI cards, or a Green Card. Otherwise, you may have to go through TSA’s ConfirmID process at the airport.
⚠️ UPDATE: Starting February 1, 2026, passengers without a REAL ID or other accepted ID may have to go through TSA’s ConfirmID process, which includes a $45 fee to verify your identity. This process is slower, doesn’t guarantee boarding, and can easily be avoided by having the correct ID.
❗IMPORTANT FOR CRUISERS: You do not need a REAL ID to go on a cruise. REAL ID requirements apply to flying domestically, not boarding your cruise ship. Be sure to check your cruise line’s required travel documents separately.
Now let’s talk about making your flight comfortable. Packing the right items in your carry-on can make your trip more enjoyable.
