One of the most common questions I see from first-time Carnival cruisers is:
"How does Your Time Dining actually work?"

If you're trying to decide between Your Time Dining and a traditional Early or Late Dining seating, you're not alone. Both options include the same delicious Main Dining Room menu, but the experience is a little different.
Here's everything you need to know before your cruise.
What Is Your Time Dining?
Your Time Dining is Carnival's flexible dining option in the Main Dining Room.
Instead of being assigned an early or late dinner seating, you can choose when you'd like to eat during the evening dining window.
It's a great option if you prefer a more relaxed schedule or don't want dinner to dictate the rest of your evening.
What Time Is Your Time Dining?
On most Carnival ships, Your Time Dining is offered:
🕔 Typically between 5:00 PM (or 5:30 PM) and 9:00 PM
Dining hours can vary slightly by ship and itinerary, so check the Carnival HUB app once you're onboard for your sailing's exact hours.
How Does It Work?
Using Your Time Dining is simple.
Step 1: Check In
When you're ready for dinner, open the Carnival HUB app and check in for the Main Dining Room.
If you don't have your phone with you, you can also check in at the dining room host stand.
Step 2: Wait for Your Table
You'll receive a notification in the Carnival HUB app when your table is ready.
While you wait, you can:
✔️ Grab a drink at a nearby bar
✔️ Watch live music
✔️ Enjoy the casino
✔️ Relax on deck
Step 3: Head to Dinner
Once you receive your notification, head to the Main Dining Room and check in with the host.
Then it's time to enjoy dinner!
Can You Request the Same Wait Staff?
Yes...sometimes.
If you find a server team you really enjoy, you can request them again on future evenings.
Requests are accommodated based on availability, so they aren't guaranteed, but Carnival does its best whenever possible.
Tips for Shorter Wait Times
If you'd like to spend less time waiting for a table, these tips can help.
Arrive Early or Late
The shortest waits are usually near the beginning or end of the dining window.
Avoid Peak Dinner Time
The busiest period is typically:
🕕 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
This is when most guests choose to eat.
Expect Longer Waits on Popular Evenings
Wait times are often longer on:
Sea Days
Elegant Nights
Some port days
Your Time Dining vs. Early & Late Dining
Your Time Dining
✅ Choose when you eat
✅ Flexible schedule
✅ Great for shows, shore excursions, spa appointments, or evenings in the casino
⚠️ You may have a short wait for a table.
Early or Late Dining
✅ Same table every evening
✅ Same dining team throughout your cruise
✅ No need to check in through the app
⚠️ Dinner is served at your assigned time every night.
Which Dining Option Is Better?
There isn't a "better" choice. It depends on your vacation style.
Choose Your Time Dining if you:
Like flexibility
Don't want to rush back from port
Enjoy evening activities before dinner
Prefer eating at different times each day
Choose Early or Late Dining if you:
Like having a routine
Want the same wait staff every night
Prefer walking straight to your table without waiting
My Recommendation
For most first-time Carnival cruisers, I recommend Your Time Dining.
Being able to choose when you eat makes your vacation feel much more relaxed. If you're enjoying sail away, watching a show, or returning late from a shore excursion, you won't have to worry about missing your assigned dinner time.
The only tradeoff is that you may wait a little longer during peak dinner hours. If you can be flexible and dine a little earlier or later, waits are often much shorter.
Frequently Asked Questions

Final Thoughts
Whether you choose Your Time Dining or a traditional dinner seating, you'll enjoy the same Main Dining Room menu and service.
If flexibility is important to you, Your Time Dining is a fantastic option and one of my favorite ways to enjoy dinner on Carnival.
